company’s low-carbon power generation business. Last month, BP Alternative Energy announced it had reached agreement with the wind project developer and turbine manufacturer Clipper Windpower to acquire a 50 per cent stake in a 2GW wind development portfolio in the U.S. as well as an agreement for the supply of turbines with a generating capacity of up to 2.25GW over the next five years.

The Cedar Creek project will bring substantial economic development opportunities to Weld County, the host county for the project. In addition to hundreds of jobs during the construction phase of the project, and over a dozen full-time operating positions, Greenlight anticipates the project will contribute several million dollars a year in taxes to Weld County. Additionally, approximately 30 families in the project area will benefit from annual payments from the project. “Upon completion, the Cedar Creek facility will be the largest in the State of Colorado and among the top five nationwide,” said Hantzmon. The Cedar Creek project will play an important role in the energy mix by providing cost-effective, clean and renewable power. Wind energy is a good hedge against the volatile fuel prices of other energy sources, and does not consume water- an important issue in the West and many other parts of the country.
