Mark Goodwin : President

Mark leads the company’s operations and oversees the implementation of corporate strategy. Mark was previously a Director at Horizon Wind Energy responsible for multiple facets of project execution including late stage development, procurement, engineering, logistics, construction and operations. He was responsible for project implementation, availability and performance, including the due diligence, selection and procurement of wind turbine generators. Mark was the lead commercial negotiator for all supply, installation and operations and maintenance agreements. While at Horizon, Mark negotiated multi-year wind turbine supply agreements with a total contract value over $3.5 billion for 12 major wind projects. Prior to Horizon Mark worked for wind turbine manufacturers Vestas and NEG Micon as the Technical Sales Manager for North America. Mark’s responsibilities included product management, sales and marketing and contracting on multiple wind farm projects. Mark is a former naval officer and helicopter pilot. He holds a BS in Aerospace Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management.

Jim Trousdale : Chief Financial Officer

Jim is responsible for executing Apex Wind Energy’s financial strategy. This includes company finance and investment activities; asset acquisitions; and structuring, executing and closing project finance transactions. Jim brings more than 20 years of international and domestic finance experience, including renewable energy and project development. Previously, he was Director at Greenlight Energy. Jim was an energy project finance and loan structuring banker at Fortis, CIT, and Citigroup, where he financed billions of dollars (thousands of megawatts) of utility-scale projects in wind, solar, and fossil fuel power generation. Jim also had a career in Latin American international development, including micro-enterprise lending and other community-based projects with Catholic Relief Services in Central and South America. Jim holds a BA and an MA from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, and an MBA from Columbia Business School. He completed Citibank’s Management Associate Credit Training Program, and is fluent in Spanish.

Tim Ryan : President of Offshore

Tim leads Apex Wind’s offshore generation division. Tim came to Apex in 2009 as part of the Apex acquisition of BQ Energy and has experience working as a renewable energy developer since 2002. Initially a partner at Arcadia Windpower, he developed the 135MW Judith Gap wind project in Montana and co-founded Bluewater Wind. In 2005-2006 Tim led the initial growth at Acciona Energy, including the acquisition of two wind energy project portfolios and the Nevada Solar One solar thermal project, building a development team and constructing the 12MW Velva wind project in North Dakota. At BQ Energy, Tim initiated the development of wind energy projects in Ohio and offshore wind in Lake Erie. Prior to entering the renewable energy industry, Tim was an investment banker in New York, and syndicated bank loans that facilitated over $50 billion of corporate acquisitions and 19,000MW of power projects. Tim holds a BA in economics from Bowdoin College and an MBA from New York University.

Kevin Davis : Vice President of Project Development

Kevin is responsible for utility scale development initiatives by Apex in Minnesota, Oklahoma, Indiana, and Ohio, and leads the onshore site selection strategy for Apex. Kevin was one of the first to join the Greenlight Energy team – the predecessor to Apex Wind Energy – where he was responsible for the company’s site evaluation and selection strategy. In this role, he identified and developed approximately half of the company’s 4,500MW development pipeline including the Cedar Creek Wind Farm, Flat Ridge Wind Farm, Mehoopany Wind Farm and the Bluestone Wind Farm. Upon the sale of Greenlight to BP Alternative Energy, Kevin joined BP to lead their development efforts in the state of Pennsylvania. Prior to entering the renewable energy industry, Kevin worked in real estate development and taught at the University of Houston as a professor of architecture. Kevin holds a BS in Architecture from the University of Virginia and a Masters of Architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture.

Jeff Ferguson : Vice President of Development

Jeff is responsible for development projects in Texas, the Southeast and the Southwest. Jeff has extensive experience in renewable energy development, serving most recently as General Manager at International Power America, an international independent power producer, which he joined upon his successful monetization of Element Markets LLC’s wind portfolio to IPA in June of this year. Prior to Element Markets, Jeff was Chief Operating Officer of Superior Renewable Energy, LLC, where he directed all wholesale marketing, engineering, prospect development, and federal and state regulatory management. At Superior, Jeff delivered the first utility scale wind power development on Native American land, developed the first Wind Power Project to dynamically schedule renewable energy from New Mexico to Arizona and developed the first utility scale project on the Texas Gulf Coast. Prior to Superior, Jeff directed all of Reliant’s activities in renewable generation development and origination as Managing Director and Director at Reliant Energy and served as Manager of Generation Planning and Structuring for Entergy Services. Jeff holds a MS in Engineering Management from Southern Methodist University and a BS in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University.

Nathan Biediger : Vice President of Construction

Nathan is responsible for engineering, procurement, and construction of capital projects. Nathan was previously with Horizon Wind Energy where he was Director of Project Management. During his time at Horizon, Nathan managed the installation of 600 MW of wind facilities across four states and managed the preconstruction of an additional 850 MW across three additional states. Prior to Horizon, Nathan was with Zachry Construction Corporation as a Project Controls Manager for their Industrial Process Division. His responsibilities with Zachry included project controls and project management functions on the construction of large power and petrochemical projects in the United States. Nathan holds a BS in Construction Science from Texas A&M University.

Tyson Utt : Director of Development, Mid-Atlantic

Tyson leads the origination and development of projects within the Mid-Atlantic region.  He is responsible for the strategic planning, key stakeholder relations, and coordination of onshore and offshore activities within this market.  Prior to joining Apex, Tyson was a Project Manager with Horizon Wind Energy where he contributed to the development and construction of over 800 MWs of projects across 5 states.  Prior to Horizon, Tyson worked as a Project Analyst for the Virginia Wind Energy Collaborative.  He holds an MBA from James Madison University and a BS from JMU’s College of Integrated Science and Technology.

David Balfrey : Director of Energy Assessment

David is responsible for all wind resource and project energy assessment including the management of the Apex meteorological tower fleet. He is the primary source at Apex for environmental data collection and analysis; turbine layout determinations; energy density estimation; site selection; turbine suitability analysis and equipment recommendation; noise, visual impact, and EMI assessment; and preliminary electrical loss assumptions. He supports project due diligence related to M&A, power market research, prospecting, project finance and the procurement of capital equipment. Prior to joining Apex, he managed wind resource assessment and worked at Acciona Energy North America as a senior scientist. He previously served as Meteorologist and Climate Researcher at the Mount Washington Observatory in New Hampshire. He received his MA in Climatology and GIS from Appalachian State University and his BA in Communications from Pfeiffer University.

Marc Gendler : Financial Analyst

Marc is responsible for the financial modeling of utility-scale wind projects. Marc has over ten years of experience related to the acquisition, divestiture, development, and asset management of energy-related projects. Prior to joining Apex, Marc worked at Pace Global Energy Services, NextEra Resources, and Duke Energy where he held leading analytical roles in the project financing and economic evaluation of power projects involving over $10 billion of transactional value. Marc holds an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of South Florida where he received a BS degree in Finance, as well as a BS in Business Administration.

Eamon Perrel : Director of Business Development

Eamon identifies acquisition opportunities and works with the team to evaluate, structure, and execute transactions for the company’s onshore and offshore market segments. Prior to joining Apex, Eamon worked with Horizon Wind Energy where he led an effort between Horizon, ERCOT, and Red Electrica of Spain to plan for the integration of wind energy in ERCOT as a result of the Texas CREZ transmission build-out. Previously, Eamon was a construction project manager and estimator for a regional commercial construction company. Eamon holds an MBA from the Darden Graduate School of Business where he specialized in Finance, and a BA in Mathematics from the University of Virginia.

Dave Clemens : Internal Counsel

Dave is responsible for supporting the company on all legal matters related to the development and financing of wind energy projects, corporate business development, holding company administration, and other legal issues. Prior to joining Apex, Dave worked in the New York City office of Latham & Watkins LLP where he specialized in project finance, leveraged finance, and mergers and acquisitions. While at Latham, he was seconded to the Goldman Sachs Group legal team to assist in the sale of power generation assets of Cogentrix Energy, Inc. David holds a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law and a BA in philosophy from the University of Virginia.

Cliff Moorman : Internal Counsel

Cliff assists in advising the company on legal matters related to the development and financing of wind energy projects, holding company administration, and other legal issues.  Prior to joining Apex, Cliff worked in the New York City office of Ropes & Gray, LLP, where he advised private investment fund clients on a broad range of complex transactions, including mergers and acquisitions and financial products.  Cliff holds a JD from William & Mary Law School and a BS from the McIntire School of Commerce at University of Virginia with a second major in German.

Jeanine Wolanski : Land Development Manager

Jeanine is responsible for overseeing land acquisition for the company and maintaining the portfolio of land assets. She previously worked as Land Development Manager for BP Wind Energy, coordinating all land leasing activities and maintaining the land assets for over twenty wind projects in the eastern US with a potential total generating capacity of 4,000MW. In addition to her extensive experience in the wind industry, Jeanine worked for several years at the local government level as a professional planner in Pennsylvania and Virginia. Jeanine holds a Bachelors of City Planning and a Masters of Urban and Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia.

John Arehart : Development Manager

John oversees project development in the onshore portfolio, providing land acquisition services, budgeting, and scheduling for various Apex Wind projects. John is a licensed Professional Engineer and holds both a BS in Civil Engineering and a Masters of Urban and Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia. Prior to joining Apex, John served as Director of Planning and Development for two real estate development firms, completing commercial, residential, and mixed-use projects across Virginia. Previously, John served as a project manager for private consultants, providing design and management services for developers, institutions, colleges, and universities.

Kent Dougherty : Development Manager

Kent oversees land acquisition activities for Apex Wind Energy. He has successfully leased thousands of acres for large-scale wind energy projects in Michigan, Minnesota, Virginia, Ohio, and Indiana that amount to more than 1,000MW of potential capacity. Prior to joining Apex, Kent worked for BP Alternative Energy as a Real Estate Specialist. Previously Kent was the principal of Strata Projects, a design, develop, and build firm that specialized in sustainable infill development and, as an EarthCraft certified green builder, was involved in over $5 million in development projects in central Virginia. Kent holds a Masters of Landscape Architecture and Urban and Environmental Planning and a BA from the University of Virginia.

Karlis Povisils : Development Manager

Karlis is responsible for offshore and onshore project development. His responsibilities on the offshore portfolio include site acquisition, permitting and power marketing. On the distributed portfolio, Karlis is responsible for the identification, qualification and management of prospective clients in possession of distributed sites. Prior to joining Apex, Karlis worked with Horizon Wind Energy, where he analyzed the impact of uncertainties surrounding the Texas Competitive Renewable Energy Zones process. Previously, Karlis worked for several years in state government, as an economic development manager and as an analyst for the New Jersey Legislature. Karlis holds an MBA from the Yale University School of Management, an MA from Syracuse University, and a BA from Rowan University.

Rob Propes : Development Manager

Rob serves as a development manager for Apex Wind Energy where he is focused on developing a market for offshore wind energy in Virginia and North Carolina through a collaborative process involving state government, the general public and businesses. Prior to joining Apex Wind Energy, Rob served as the offshore business lead for AWS Truepower, developing new business among U.S. offshore clients and managing product deliverables. Rob also served as the Delaware Project Director for Bluewater Wind, where he and his colleagues secured the country’s first PPA for an offshore wind facility. Prior to Bluewater Wind, Rob held economic development positions in Pennsylvania and Delaware. Rob holds a MA in Public Affairs from Indiana University and a BA in Business Administration from Loyola College in Maryland.

Paolo Tovar : GIS Manager

Paolo is responsible for the management of all GIS data analysis at Apex Wind. Paolo has worked closely with renewable energy VPs, project managers, and real estate professionals to develop a spatial decision support system that accelerates virtually every step of the project development process. His career has focused on evolving the way decision makers view the world through the implementation of cutting edge technology. He has co-authored a conference paper and drafted a journal article to investigate the shared experience of international companies in employing spatial decision support systems to enhance business decision-making. He has presented at multiple conferences on the role of GIS in business. Paolo recently shared his expertise at the Solar Power International 2009 conference during a session entitled “Cycle Time: Accelerating Project Timelines as a Competitive Advantage”. Paolo holds an AA from Chaffey Community College, a BS and GIS certificate from Loma Linda University and an MBA from University of Redlands.

John Foster : GIS Analyst

John is responsible for supporting and analyzing GIS data at Apex Wind. Prior to starting at Apex, John spent nine years as a GIS Analyst for the Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC) in Charlottesville, Virginia where he dealt with land conservation and land use policy issues throughout central Virginia. Before working for PEC, John spent six years as a media planner for two large advertising agencies in New York City. John holds a BA from Kenyon College in Ohio and a Masters of Urban and Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia.

Michael Rauch : Business Development Manager

Michael identifies and develops new project leads in coordination with the Business Development team, and manages relationships with potential power purchasers for onshore and offshore projects. Specifically, Michael works with electric cooperatives and municipal utilities to source power purchase agreements. Before starting with Apex, Michael was the Associate Director at the Jackson Hole Land Trust, a non-profit land conservation group in Jackson, WY, where he developed conservation projects. Michael holds a Masters in Public Administration from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University, and a BS in Environmental Studies from the University of Vermont.

Grady O’Shaughnessy : Corporate Development Manager

Grady manages investor outreach for the finance and business development teams. He also leads Apex’s corporate marketing and public relations initiatives.  Prior to joining Apex, Grady led marketing efforts at private and non-profit organizations including Clif Bar & Co. and 1% for the Planet.  He also worked with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Bonneville Power Administration where he analyzed the evolution of electricity markets and variable energy resource integration around North America for the Wind Integration Team. Grady holds a Master of Environmental Management from Yale University and a BS from Lehigh University.

Kyle Spore : Construction Coordinator

Kyle is responsible for project controls and assists in project management tasks related to the engineering, procurement, and construction of capital projects. Prior to joining Apex, Kyle spent three years as a Quality Control Inspector with Horizon Wind Energy where he completed six successful projects with a total installed capacity of 700 MW. Kyle was a member of Horizon’s onsite Project Management staff throughout four Midwestern states, and his responsibilities included the management of turbine QA/QC, materials management, underground collections inspection, logistics, and site safety. Before joining Horizon, Kyle worked in commercial and residential finance as a Florida Licensed Mortgage Broker. He holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Florida.

Drew Silverman : Senior Energy Analyst

Drew is responsible for wind resource and project energy assessment, including the integration of advanced modeling and post processing techniques. He provides support at Apex for environmental data collection and analysis; turbine layout determinations; energy density estimation; site selection; turbine suitability analysis and equipment recommendation; and noise, visual impact, and wind flow modeling. He supports project due diligence related to M&A, power market research, prospecting, project finance and the procurement of capital equipment. Prior to joining Apex, he worked at BP Wind Energy as a Wind Resource Meteorologist managing energy assessments for projects east of the Mississippi. Additionally, he previously served as Meteorologist at Weathernews, Inc. He received his BS in Meteorology and GIS certification from Rutgers University in New Jersey.
